Getting Started With Bariatric Surgery

Weight loss surgery is a life changing event and you must be thoroughly aware of the changes that you will have to make once the surgery is performed. For this reason, there are a series of steps that must be completed before you can be considered for bariatric surgery. Beginning your weight loss journey:

  • Obtain any referrals by contacting your insurance company before scheduling any appointments
  • Schedule your initial office visit with our bariatric surgeon to confirm candidacy for surgery
  • Meet with patient advocate to review insurance and program requirements
  • Your insurance may require dietary office visits
  • Attend a pre-operative surgical visit with your bariatric surgeon
  • Attend a pre-assessment visit at the hospital to complete required laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures
  • Attend at least one support group session before surgery
